Job description

About Nucs AI

Nucs AI is revolutionizing cancer care through cutting-edge AI and medical imaging technology. Founded in 2024 by a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, AI researchers, and healthcare innovators, we’re tackling one of medicine’s most pressing challenges: the growing demand for accurate, timely cancer diagnostics in the face of rising scan volumes and limited radiologist capacity.

We sit at the intersection of diagnostics and treatment planning—building AI-powered tools at the convergence of medical imaging, radioligand therapy, and artificial intelligence. Starting with prostate cancer and expanding across oncology, we partner with world-leading medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies across the US, Europe, and Australia to bring precision oncology into everyday clinical practice.

Our mission is to enhance diagnostic precision and expand access to expert-level cancer care, improving patient outcomes worldwide. We’re venture-backed, early-stage, and building a team that blends deep clinical expertise with engineering intensity—moving with the rigor the medical field demands and the speed the problem deserves.

The Opportunity

This role owns the platform engineering domain at Nucs AI — architecture, delivery, team, and cross-functional alignment. You'll make architectural decisions, grow and lead the platform team, and be accountable for how our clinical AI platform scales across modalities, devices, and integration partners.

You'll work in close partnership with the CTO, co-owning technical direction while holding authority over platform architecture, engineering practices, and delivery. This isn't a role where decisions are made elsewhere and handed to you - you'll shape how the platform evolves and ensure it keeps pace with an ambitious product and clinical roadmap.

You're joining an early-stage, high-caliber engineering team with a clear mandate to grow. The right candidate sees that as the opportunity it is.

What You’ll Do

Engineering Culture & Team Leadership

  • Shape and guide the engineering culture - clarity, trust, and technical quality as foundational values

  • Manage backend, frontend, DevOps, and QA engineers; support career growth and autonomy

  • Lead hiring: define roles, run structured interviews, and build a high-performing team

  • Set clear expectations, run effective sprints, and remove blockers

Technical Architecture & Platform Ownership

  • Oversee architecture, delivery, and reliability of the core platform: cloud infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines, and deployment systems

  • Drive technical decisions on tooling, frameworks, and infrastructure in collaboration with the CTO

  • Design and evolve scalable, secure architectures for DICOM/PACS workflows and clinical data infrastructure

  • Ensure clinical-grade reliability across all systems

Cross-Functional Alignment & Delivery

  • Align priorities across ML, product, and security teams for seamless releases and clinical readiness

  • Ensure reliable, on-time delivery of platform capabilities aligned with product and clinical milestones

  • Facilitate technical collaboration between engineering, ML, product, and clinical partners

Operations & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, incident response, and operational excellence practices

  • Manage platform reliability, security, and compliance in line with SaMD and regulatory requirements

  • Oversee DevOps and QA functions to ensure quality and security across the delivery pipeline

Job requirements

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a technical lead or engineering management role

  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred), Kubernetes, microservices, and distributed systems

  • Deep experience with secure data infrastructure, and external system integration

  • Proficiency in Python and modern backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask) and frontend experience

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams in fast-paced environments

  • Empathetic communicator who fosters collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders

Bonus Points

  • Experience in healthcare, MedTech, or regulated software environments (ISO 13485, FDA QSR)

  • Familiarity with medical imaging pipelines (DICOM/PACS) and clinical data workflows

  • Experience scaling systems from early-stage to production clinical deployment

  • Background inproduct/platform engineering disciplines

  • Experience aligning ML and engineering teams on shared infrastructure and delivery goals

  • Ability to work in person at the Berlin office
